Carbon of a letter from Heath to Edmund A. Opitz, Foundation for Economic Education, Irvington-on-Hudson, NY.

October 31, 1955

Dear Dr. Opitz:

I want to thank you very kindly for hospitality that you not only personally but officially as a member of the F.E.E. extended to me and to my grandson a short time ago.

It was very inspiring to be among like-minded friends to whom one could present positive ideas in confidence of their being hospitably received. I have admired the Foundation and its work for quite a number of years and feel that great credit is due to its leader and well-selected personnel of which you have recently become a part.

I have read carefully your “Theology of Freedom.” It is very forceful in its picture of our present troubles and suggestive of a way out. You are certainly right. I personally am much more in favor of the theology of freedom than in mere salvation from the evils we must now endure. There is a technology of freedom which we need to learn and understand.

With my best wishes to you and to your associates in which my grandson also joins, I am,

Sincerely yours,
