Carbon of a letter from Heath to Hugh P. King, Economic Research Department, Chamber of Commerce, Washington, D.C.

March 31, 1957

Dear Mr. King:

It was most interesting meeting and talking with you some time ago.

I was especially interested in your adventures in science fiction, which it seems to me might easily pass beyond the realm of pure entertainment. Fiction has been an immensely effective vehicle, frequently, in the advancement of creative ideas — outlining the shapes of things to come.

I think I told you something of my own partial efforts in this direction of fiction by the aid of a ghost, but without complete success. Amid a considerable renovation here, I have at last found a copy of what was accomplished, and remembering your interest in what was said of it, I am sending it along herewith.

I think it may appeal to you as a peculiarly constructive libertarian point of view following Adam Smith’s very pregnant suggestions (Wealth of Nations, Modern Library, 1937, pp. 248-249). In any case, I shall be happy to know your reaction to it.

Couldn’t you possibly drop in and see us some time soon, with or without notice a day or an hour in advance (telephone Elkridge 162-M). Our little beginnings of a new Foundation are located at 1502 Montgomery Road, only about one-quarter mile west from Washington Boulevard at the top of the hill in West Elkridge, just ten miles out of Baltimore and thirty from Washington. We are here pretty much at all hours.

Please give my best compliments to your father when you can. Looking forward to the pleasure of seeing you again,

                        Sincerely yours,
