Carbon of a letter from Heath to Percy L. Greaves, Chevy Chase, Maryland.
September 18, 1958
Dear Dr. Greaves:
I am wondering how everything goes with you these days. I visited the Foundation folk in their new office for the first time some weeks ago, and things did not seem the same, especially by your not being there.
I am wondering if you ever came across any of the writings of the late E. C. Riegel, a man who spent most of his long life trying to get it across to businessmen that they could keep their accounts on the basis of a non-inflatable unit of their own. This unit could be parallel and interchangeable with the Government unit. The Government unit, however, would soon be at a discount with respect to the free enterprise accountancy unit, since businessmen could not without dishonor issue any unbacked credits, as Government does. Thus money obligations could be kept in terms of this free unit without being subject to money or credit inflations.
Be assured, Mr. Riegel was no hair-brained theorist. If you do not know of his writings, I am sure you would do yourself a favor by looking them up. His books are in many libraries, and I am sure some of them, or information about them, could be obtained from my friend, Major Ivan Firth, 51 Morton Street, New York City, who with his wife became Mr. Riegel’s literary executor.
Since we are only a few miles apart, how about looking in on us some afternoon or evening (or morning for that matter). We are on Montgomery Road at Elkridge, just off (west) from Washington Boulevard, Route No. 1, between Washington and Baltimore.
With best personal regards,
Sincerely yours,
Spencer Heath
