INDIFFERENCE

Are her eyes fair?

Why should I know? How should I care?

I love their glow.

Wherein resides

The charm, the spell?

What thing abides,

Enthralls, so well?

Is her cheek pale

  Or shames the rose?

Fie! such detail,

   To me it glows.

This my reply:

The darkened heart Sees naught but sky

Till she depart.

Light hair or dark?

Nor can I tell;

I only mark

It crowns her well.

From her there gleams

A beauty rare

That shames all dreams

Of eyes and hair.
