Carbon of letter from Heath, 312 Halesworth Street, Santa Ana, California, to Gertrude Redlich
August 24, 1961
Dear Gertrude,
Despite my long silence (which is a peculiar vice of mine), I have been thinking about you very many times during the two years or more I have been, except for a few months last summer, in the West. I cannot now think of very much to say to you except to recall many happy memories of you as a very extraordinary friend, one in a million, as the saying goes. It was wonderful knowing you and some of your fine friends, including of course Lilly Rona, whom we both admired so much. I think it was at her sister, Fritzi Merley’s, house that I last saw you in New York. If you ever contact her, please give her my love. I think I liked her better from the first than you did. I wish we could both have more contact with her now. Tell her so for me, if you can. Please remember me also to your mother and sister, and to that very fine son and daughter of yours. I truly hope, for your sake if no other, that everything is well with them all. Whenever I return to New York, I look forward to some fine evenings again with you.
Affectionately,
