Intended revolutions. Our present revolution is one that nobody intends. James watt’s unintended revolution — the industrial revolution. Ford started a revolution in eating and cooking habits.
Gem of the evening: In social crisis many trust the wisdom of those in power. Bankers, lawyers or industrialists.
A good thinker must be sure a change is coming and glad of it.
We are now in a second revolution. Displacing employes by impersonal machinery.
Must have a public that can take the goods, buy the goods, the machines are processing /?/ out.
Enormous production without enough purchasing power.
Depression means production beyond power to buy.
Problem of 20th century is the problem of raising the purchasing power of the whole people. How can it be done?
Cutting wages cuts purchasing power.
Then comes taxes out of purchasing power.
All people must be wealthy enough, — I say wealthy enough — to buy the goods.
How can we raise income? Put our most economic /?/ heads together and raise income.
