Carbon of letter from Heath, 312 Halesworth Street, Santa Ana, California, to Ivan Firth, friend and colleague of E.C. Riegel
August 24, 1961
Dear Ivan:
When I was East last summer I had, as I remember, some contact with you. But it was so little, it seems as though I had not seen you for a very long time. I am wondering how everything goes with you and Gladys. I certainly hope things have been happening in connection with the Mexico property as I believe they were promising to do.
Speaking about you, Spencer and I have been wondering about the Riegel literary and other effects. Sometimes we feel a little uneasy, lest his contributions to an understanding of money should become permanently lost or obscured. We certainly hope you feel the same way about it. Possibly his materials will find their way to some suitable library where, at least, they might be unearthed soon or at some future time.
Spencer has just received his Master’s degree in anthropology at the University of Washington, and I think the thesis upon which it was quite favorably awarded is going to attract a lot of attention among anthropologists and probably also in much wider fields. Its title is Proprietary Community, treating of it in the past, present and future.
There is a possibility we may both come East for a while before the frost flies. If we do, we hope to see you both and find all well with you.
Cordially,
SH/p
