Handwritten note Dorothy L. Drake, Northern Pines, Port Kent, NY. Also an email of September 19, 2014 from Spencer MacCallum to the Library of Congress requesting information, but the Library found nothing.
June 19, 1944
Dear Mr. Heath,
I am sending you under separate cover a copy of the music I have composed to your beautiful paraphrase, “Plea to the Lord”, and am attending to the copyright of this Sacred Song at the Library of Congress in Washington where I always copyright my songs.
I believe that this rendition of your words and my music is destined to become widely known in time, and I trust we may find a publisher.
What would you suggest?
Sincerely yours,
(signed) Dorothy L. Drake

While completing an archive of Spencer Heath’s philosophic and poetic writings for the Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala City, a hand-written note has come to light from a Dorothy L. Drake, of Northern Pines, Port Kent, New York, dated June 19, 1944. She speaks of music she composed for the Lord’s Prayer as paraphrased by Heath in words of one syllable. That music is not among Heath’s papers, and we are anxious to find it. Ms. Drake’s note says, “I am attending to the copyright of this Sacred Song at the Library of Congress in Washington where I always copyright my songs.” Is it possible that the Library might have a copy of it somewhere? If not, have you any other suggestions?
