Letter from E.C. Riegel
April 6, 1945
Dear Mr. Heath:
I departed from my resolve not to indulge myself in your writings until I had disposed of some pressing jobs and I read your “The Inspiration of Beauty” which I shall read several more times before I shall be able to extract all the good that you have so thoughtfully put into it.
It happens that today I received a letter from Mrs. Harriot J. Vine who has sensed in P.E.M. something metaphysical. I have always realized that I was working in the foot-hills of a sublime thought but have not felt competent to paint the beauty of the exchange relationship. When Mrs. Vine suggested that I might find some stepping stones in Mrs. Orgain’s writings I addressed her but I seem to have destroyed the copy of my letter to her.
In any event you will see that she chilled me with her letter which I forwarded to Mrs. Vine and who now returns it. Please read this correspondence and observe also the sheet containing the “Money Power in You” in which I try to make an approach that is not clothed in economic vestments which repel so many persons especially women.
I am convinced that in you I have found the person who can present the beauty of the exchange idea and this letter is the confession of a tyro and salute to a master.
I feel that you can be very helpful to me and I hope to make it reciprocal.
Cordially yours,
