Letter from Bill Matchette, The Franklin J. Matchette Foundation, Inc., 20 East 66th Street, New York 21, N.Y., with some penciling by Heath regarding topics for a discussion meeting, followed by printed invitation to a talk by Heath for a different occasion.
November 24, 1952
Dear Spencer:
Since you left for Virginia, a meeting of some of my Trustees has been called for December 5th in New York. At least three of them should be present so it seemed like a good opportunity to get them to attend our Seminar for that evening and have you meet them. I expect John Matchette, my young cousin who is General Manager of our Nitragin Company in Milwaukee, Dr. Thomas H. Smith, the Professor of Economics at Purdue and probably Mr. Kaufman.
Under these circumstances, don’t you think it would be a good idea for us to change from the subject we discussed and have the meeting about some particular aspect of A-R Theory and rather point the discussion at them since these men have some knowledge of the Theory. It is an opportunity for them to see at first-hand what we are trying to do at these Discussion Group meetings.
If you agree, here are some suggested titles –
- Purpose in the Cosmos
- Purpose in Creation
5. The Philosophy of Purpose
(and use some of Sinnott’s book with above, the Referend-Referent Law, etc.) 4. From Atom to Absolute
or simply have a review of the book “Outline of a Metaphysics”. The above are purely suggestive so please feel free to change or adopt another.
I am also to have present a prominent British Lecturer, John G. Bennett, who the Foundation is helping to subsidize and who is giving a series of lectures here now in Carnegie Recital Hall.
Since time is somewhat of the essence on all this and in order to have the announcements printed in time, I would very much appreciate your telephoning me collect on the above as soon as possible.
Janet and I both hope you have a very pleasant trip and a Happy Thanksgiving with your family.
Sincerely yours, /s/ Bill
