Letter to L.D. Beckwith, “The Forum,” Stockton, California
January 16, 1954
Dear Mr. Beckwith:
On November 2, 1953, we sent you some comments on two articles in reference to land value taxation which appeared in Freeman Magazine July 27th and August 10th.
Since we have had no acknowledgment from you we are wondering if our letter may have failed to reach you. Just in case this may have happened we are enclosing another copy of our comments by Spencer Heath which, in view of your long advocacy of land value taxation, should be of some interest to you. Some of the opposition advanced, we believe, is recent if not altogether new, and it seems to us that no one else in the Henry George movement could better answer them than you.
We are of course primarily not partisans since we seek understanding rather than conviction and hope to stimulate the very best arguments that can be brought out on both sides.
Your acknowledgments will be appreciated.
Very truly yours,
Spencer MacCallum, Sec’y
