Letter from Arthur Ben Chitty, Director, Office of Public Relations, The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee

 

Dear Dr. Heath:

Quite by accident I saw at the University Press a copy of your little booklet “The Inspiration of Beauty.” I read it and am very much impressed by it. I think your basic idea has really daring originality. In many ways your brief statement shares a tone sim­ilar to that of Robert Bridges’ Testament of Beauty. You go quite beyond him however in seeing beauty in social organization of human beings. There is nothing in his work which conflicts with what you say but he does not give social organization the emphasis that you do.

 If you would like to spare a few extra copies of this little booklet I would like to distribute them among some people here at Sewanee who would be interested in reading what you have to say. Could you send me a dozen or so?

 We in the Alumni and Public Relations offices look back with pleasure upon your visit to Sewanee. We hope that you can come back again. I believe that you and our Institution are “simpatico”.
