Exchange between Heath and F.A. Harper, Foundation for Economic Education, Irvington-on-Hudson, NY

November-December 1955

Dear Mr. Heath:                   November 18, 1955

Your perception of these matters of which you speak in yours of November 14 so far exceeds my own that I cannot help sinning in a personal elation over your agreement with my “Sequoyah” line of thought.

But my sole purpose must be the pursuit of truth, even in my own errors, wherever it may lead. So rather than accept your appreciation myself I shall pass it on, in turn, to those unknown many persons who must have brought these thought-ingredients to me in the first place.

And thanks for the enclosure, which I shall read with interest.

Sincerely,

/s/ F.A. Harper

P.S. John Chamberlain was one, much interested in your

general concept. Wonder how he thinks about “Sequoyah?”

Dear Dr. Harper:                       December 8, 1955

Your note of November 18, was very much more gratifying to me than I can say, and your sense of obligation is so parallel to my own that am sending you a copy of my own acknowledgments to others as it will appear at the beginning of my manuscript soon to be published, Citadel, Market and Altar.

John Chamberlain has been a very warm friend for a good many years. We were brought together by my reading of his Farewell to Reform.

Apropos of Sequoyah, I am sure John will like it very much. I would like to show it to him today, but my copy is not quite complete. Page 13 was missing when I received it. Perhaps you can send me a copy of that page.

I am happy to know of your apparent close relation with Thaddeus Ashby and Spiritual Mobilization. I feel that you and that group, John Chamberlain and I are capable of fine cooperation in a unity of spirit and mind.

Sincerely,

SH/m

Encl: Copy of Acknowledgments, Citadel, Market and Altar.
