Carbon of letter to Frank C. Hanighen, Human Events, Inc., 1835 K Street, N.W., Washington 6, D.C. (Note: Opening line of this letter is reference to the presidential elections.)
November 10, 1956
Dear Mr. Hanighen:
Now that the shouting is over, let us get back to the advantages of Free Enterprise over coercion and war, especially in the ownership and operation of the Suez Canal.
Please publish in HUMAN EVENTS the enclosed article (or make it the basis of a similar article, with or without credit to me) looking to a Free-Enterprise solution through a completely non-political, proprietary administration of the Canal.
The Western powers, in their current peril, may well favor a wholly non-political solution of the present impasse.
Sincerely,
Senator Byrd and my friend, Dr. F.A. Harper, of FEE, have sent copies of this proposal respectively to Secretary Dulles and Herbert Hoover, Jr., and a number of others to whom it has been sent have made favorable response.
