Spencer Heath, Esq.

Elkridge 27, Maryland, U.S.A.

Dear Dr. Heath:

This has been my first opportunity to acknowledge receipt of your kind letter.

Am on my way back to Montreal, having just arrived here (at Woodstock, N.B.) from Maine, where I was present at Directors meetings and Annual General meetings of Shareholders of several companies (subsidiaries of Canadian Pacific Railway Company, of which I am an officer).

I share with you the hope that Alex de Mengden will long enjoy complete recovery from his unhappy illness and accidents.

He was indeed sympathetic when my dear Mother died. I discussed with him my desire to establish a Foundation in her memory and that of my dear Father. It might be called: The William and Mary Bonar Memorial Foundation. From my volunteer experience, as a Director and Officer of the Continent-wide Canadian Conference on Social Work, I observe there is need for such foundations.

Alex said he thought you would be willing to counsel me on the steps I should take to establish the Foundation, and to let me know how you proceeded to create “The Science of Society Foundation.” Could you also send me copies of its acts of incorporation, by-laws, etc. publications, and give me the benefit of your subsequent experience in directing the Foundation?

Such data would be helpful in drafting the charter and by-laws of the Foundation in memory of my dear Father and Mother, which I should like done by my lawyer in Ottawa, the capitol of Canada, as I consider a Dominion incorporation indicated, and desire that the Foundation continue through the years.

Will you please let me hear from you when convenient?

I hope to have the pleasure of seeing you in Montreal again in the not too distant future and meanwhile send warm regards and every good wish.

Yours cordially,

/s/ James C. Bonar
