Carbon of letter to Robert D. Bartlett, Bartlett, Poe and Glagget, Calvert and Redwood Streets, Baltimore 2, Maryland
August 22, 1957
Dear Mr. Bartlett:
In order that you may perhaps admire the design and typography of my CITADEL, MARKET AND ALTAR, I am sending you a copy in its final published form in place of the manuscript you have been keeping for quite a long time. I hope this published volume will interest you. It has been quite favorably received by a number of more or less prominent persons, including Dr. Virgil Jordan, the present dean and long-time President of The National Industrial Conference Board, and Dr. William Ernest Hocking, of Harvard.
In addition to your own personal interest in what I believe is a matter of great public importance, I should be very glad to have you bring this to the attention of some of your broad-thinking associates of the bench or bar, or otherwise broadly interested in financial or public affairs.
I trust you are having a refreshing vacation and look forward to seeing you about a number of matters soon after your return.
Cordially yours,
SH/m
