Letter from Virgil Jordan, Aurora, West Virginia (Chancellor, The National Industrial Conference Board), with appended names of those among the officers and trustees of The Conference Board to whom he felt it would not necessarily be time wasted for Heath to send copies of Citadel, Market and Altar

August 26, 1957

Dear Mr. Heath:

Your book impressed me as a most penetrating exposition of the anatomy, physiology, and also some aspects of the pathology, of free enterprise capitalism, though I do not feel competent to appraise its therapeutic suggestions. You are free, of course, to send copies, with any comment of mine on it, to anyone in The Conference Board, but as an “emeritus” I have not been in close contact with its personnel since my retirement eight years ago, and I can think of very few among its present Officers and Trustees who would seem to me to be likely to give the book the attention or interest it merits. I have checked these names on the attached list, and have also crossed out certain others to whom I am sure it would be useless to send the book at all.

With my thanks and best wishes,

Yours sincerely,

(signed) Virgil Jordan
