Carbon of letter to Dr. Edward McCrady, The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee

February 14, 1955

 

Dear Dr. McCrady:

I am thinking seriously of spending the latter end of this winter in Florida and will he most happy to travel by way of Sewanee if there is fair prospect of having an inspiring visit with you and the benefit of your advice, and perhaps also admonitions, with respect to the striking scientific, social and religious analogies which constitute the foundation of my Citadel, Market & Altar.

 Publication of this has been seriously delayed, partly from want of assurance from any competent source of the technical correctness with which I have drawn upon the natural sciences. For some time, I have been hoping for your friendly advice and possible assistance or kind assurances with respect to this. As it now is, I do not feel I can much longer delay getting these contributions to social integration into print and circulation.

 Two things I do greatly hope to accomplish by a possible visit to Sewanee In the near future: First, I would hope to gain your sympathetic Interest and attention in line with your own remarkable discoveries and ideals, and, second, to take up seriously the possibility (at a profit to the University) of the printing and binding being done by and under direc­tion of your Sewanee Printing Department, assuming your generous approval of this.

 Dr. McCrady, I have found few persons, public or private, whose scientific and religious thinking has advanced so far towards the actuality of the New Testament dream and ideal of a Kingdom of Heaven on the earth. This is my apology, above and beyond my very great pleasure in your personal friendship, for seeking aid and inspiration through you.
