—  BOOKS ON THE GROWING EDGE

An Honor-Bibliography representing our selection of some of the most significant books (published since 1900) for creative, philosophic thinking about the future of society. This is a preliminary compilation. We have just started thinking about this. Will you honor us by thoughtfully adding one or a number of books (or pamphlets or publications of any kind) to the coupon below and returning it to us — books that you feel break ground toward an understanding of the positive future of free society and man’s place in the world?

/The following is a preliminary list of titles suggested by Heath, MacCallum putting them down in pencil. Hayek was crossed out but then restored with a check mark. Mises was included, but Heath commented, “Mises is pretty much of a stick-in-the-mud. He’s a good stick and well stuck — but that’s what he is — not a tree with philosophic roots and bearing fine fruit. He’s just a stick in the mud. You couldn’t have a much better stick in the mud, though!” And further, “This is an effort to develop the philosophic minds in the libertarian movement — to help the movement for freedom grow intellectually, to give it stature as a philosophic movement .. to help it grow intellectually — to plant its feet firmly in all reaches of human experience. …Forward looking, intended to develop libertarians as philosophers — pull the libertarian movement forward. With the possible exception of Mises, it is not a statement of where we now stand.”

Another title suggested for this project was “Break-Through Books — Since 1900 — ”/
