Penned letter from a friend, Wilbur G. Glover, Engineering Department, Crane Company, Chicago, Illinois. The gold medal referred to must be that won at law school.
June 29, 1904
My dear Mr. Heath.
Many good wishes for your continued success in taking gold medals, from two of your Chicago friends. It might have been expected such would be the case. It has pleased me very much to hear of it. It surely is a sign of a good change of condition — always a certainty where industry and application are shown.
A change was made about May 1st in my future work. I was sent down to 219 Jefferson Street to assist a Mr. Rollins in getting up a new Power catalogue and while here a vacancy occurred in the engineering dept. (under Mr. J. B. Berryman) and Mr. Rollins recommended me to the place — with the result that I have been at it since June 1st with pretty good results. The work consists in estimating the complete equipment, in goods of Crane manufacture, of power houses, steam plants, etc. and I find it very interesting and instructive. This department was just starting when I left the company years ago — if things had only been different I might now be one of the greater lights instead of a lesser one, — but it is no time to lament.
My family are all well — our boy is into mischief all the time and runs away at every opportunity, but he certainly is the joy of his father’s and mother’s hearts. Our home is very pleasant these days — we wish you were all here to visit us. Remember us to your family and write soon if you find time.
Sincerely your friend,
/s/ Wilbur G. Glover
