What I’ve said refers to the intra-sex relationship. It has no bearing as between persons of the same sex and is therefore not the whole story. There’s the element of male dominance and female subjection. Yet domination is the same thing, whether male over female or male over male — even though man-woman dominance was doubtless earlier by reason of the disparity in muscular power. The evolution of marriage towards more and more individuation, independence of the units as a result of higher specialization and interfunctioning. The evolution of society is not just the man-woman relationship. It is the development of freedom for the individual towards independent self-realization within the interfunctioning system of society as a whole. The salvation of the individual soul is the matter of its developing its own unique qualities and capacities.
