Poem penciled on art paper probably addressed to Johanna Maria Holm when courting her
No date
You seem to needle little thought
When nature doffs her garb of white,
Her robes are tender green
And all bedight in blossoms bright
She wears a radiant sheen.
Then brings she forth in joy nor pain
Her faery daughter May
And then I swain shall _____ again
My loved one’s natal day.
And so, my love, I send to thee
A tiny natal stone
Which ancient lore hath said shall be
The symbol of thine own.
And in a golden ring ‘tis fixed
The gem I send to thee
Our graven names therein betwixt
And welded into unity.
The stone shall as a symbol shine
Of love’s sweet ecstasy
The golden circlet be a sign
Of true love’s constancy.
