Dear Mr. Heath:
I have not heard from you since you left. I wonder if you are mad at me. Are you?
I have been hopelessly searching for the red tie Papa selected for your birthday. The box it came in is on my table but the tie is gone. Apparently somebody else liked it as well as I did. However, if it should reappear I will mail it to you. I felt so sad it was gone. I decided to write a verse instead dedicated to you.
A Birthday Poem
To Spencer Heath
Within thine eyes so blue and so benign
A latent glow — lit by a spark divine,
Reveals the yearning of thy restless soul
On quest divine
Ennobled is thine brow
By thought refined
Beyond the realm of self to plan
A saner, safer world for all mankind
