Dear Dr. Underhill:
At this opening of the new year, it gives me pleasure to extend some very special greetings to you.
I think you will be happy to note that my CITADEL, MARKET AND ALTAR has met with some cordial reception both here and abroad, as indicated in the circular and the booklet which I now enclose. Your own comment is appreciated as among the most valuable of any that has been made, and I have accordingly taken the liberty of reproducing a portion of it, as you will observe.
A main purpose of my preparation of this volume was to lay some rational foundation for an appreciation of the spiritual and artistic implications of the philosophy of freedom.
In this chill season, I am happy to send you my very warm regards.
Cordially,
Spencer Heath
