Dear Popdaddy,
I’m back here in my apartment on the campus. The other day I was watching the boys practicing football. The quarterback on the varsity came up to me. He asked, “How’s your grandfather?” Then he said, “He certainly was a smart old man.” The boy would like to see you again. Do get better if you can.
Love, Irvan

Dear Popdaddy,
Don’t worry about not writing me. At the best of times neither of us is very good at writing.
I hope you’ve been getting better lately. The boys still ask about you. The other day I put your picture up on the wall over my sofa. Give my love to Mother and Daddy.
Love, Irvan
Februay 22, 1963
Dear Popdaddy,
I hope you’re a little happier today. I’ve been working all day on a paper concerned with Politics and Economics, and I started thinking about you. Boy you wouldn’t like the paper! But I still owe you a good deal. Remember me.
Love, Irvan
