Taping by Spencer MacCallum from conversation with Heath at Winchester, Virginia

I think one of the greatest taboos or buggaboos of man has been the idea of all or nothing, the all-black-or-all-white complex, all-good-or-all-evil — that’s the most damnable of all — so that every proposition, even every person must be totally accepted or totally rejected. Perhaps the wisest of all ancient precepts was that of Plato in discussing how men could become creators instead of creatures, and thereby divine: “He shall be as a god to me who can rightly define and divide.” The all-or-nothing complex binds men down from attaining to the prerogative of the gods.
