October 5, 1939
Dear Mr. Codman:
Finding myself back here in New York for a few days, it occurs to me to write inquiring as to the probability of your coming down soon to visit the School, as you said you were expecting to do when I last spoke to you from Cambridge.
I am looking forward with much pleasure to the opportunity of conversation with you, and with a desire to get your evaluation of some particular ideas on social theory with which I have been trying to entertain myself.
I hope your plans are developing in the direction contemplated.
While in the vicinity of Boston, I had opportunity of further renewing my acquaintance of many years ago with Franklin Wentworth. He has written me twice with reference to some of the matters that I discussed with him, and seems to be favorably impressed with the idea of enlisting the profit interest of land owners towards the abolition of all taxation upon the use of land, and the products of capital and labor, and defraying public costs out of the ground rent arising out of such valuable community services. I hope to be able to accept his warm invitation to visit him again for further discussions. He is particularly interested in the question of how the advantages of natural resources, such as mines, etc., would become available to the general population under a free economy. I also hope to have further conversations with Dr. Charles R. Morgan with whose eager and earnest mind and dynamic personality I was much pleased.
Wishing you the best in health and affairs, I am,
Sincerely yours,
I will be at my New York address, Kings Crown Hotel, 420 West 116th St., until October 10th.
