Item 1940
Carbon of a letter to Rose Wilder Lane, Route 6, Box 4, Danbury, Connecticut.
June 20, 1957
Dear Mrs. Lane:
Your letter of June ninth has made me very happy indeed. I have known of your writings and admired them (along with Isabel Paterson’s) for quite a number of years. In fact I have long looked forward to the pleasure of a personal acquaintance with you and have at times wondered if you would welcome a visitation out of the blue.
Replying to your questions, my object above all else is to have the book examined and understood by competent minds. The matter of paying for it is entirely secondary. (Large quantities can be had at discounts up to 50%.) I have sent complimentary copies to several of those whom you recommend and will do likewise for the remainder of your list very soon.
My Science of Society Foundation, about which you so kindly inquire, is very young and very small. I enclose a copy of its Purposes. You will note that it dwells exclusively on the constructive and creative, the life-serving and life-advancing in human affairs.
I like your sense of values in not giving too much weight to a single and perhaps minor detail.
This letter falls very short of expressing my full appreciation.
Sincerely yours,
SH/m
Encl.
