Carbon of letter to Henry Hazlitt, The Freeman Magazine, 240 Madison Avenue, New York 16, NY. (The article referred to is not included here but needs to be added when it turns up.)
July 26, 1955
My Dear Mr. Hazlitt:
In the Freeman for July 27th appears a long article (more than three pages) that presents the five basic premises of the Henry George argument and gives them the very highest academic endorsement.
Since its beginning it has been the determined policy of The Freeman to oppose all forms of communism or political collectivism without exception. I must suppose that this apparent departure in favor of land “socialization” is intended only to set out authoritatively the argument in favor of that movement so that its fallacies, from the anti-socialist point of view as represented by The Freeman can be the better exposed.
With this in view, I submit to you, in the form of a letter to the editor, a brief article in opposition to each of the five single tax premises that your published article lays down. I hope it will be the policy of The Freeman to oppose these premises with at least equal publicity for the anti-socialist side.
Sincerely yours
Spencer Heath
