Dear Mr. Lindsley:
Out here in California I have many times pleasantly remembered our occasional contacts and the lively interest that you took in the wholly new rational approach and analysis of public affairs set out in my CITADEL, MARKET & ALTAR and especially its bringing to light the vast promise and importance of the recently conspicuous trend to consolidation of holdings and self-sustaining community administration in the field of real-estate.
The great corporate assemblages of property, other than real estate, during the past century and more for its productive administration in behalf of the general public and for acceptance of the voluntary revenue and profit therefrom, is beginning to be paralleled and enormously exceeded by a similar movement in real estate looking to the assemblage and united ownership of huge properties not for resale but for the production of general benefits and advantages appurtenant and common to the entire property and thus enjoyed by its inhabitants according to the rental values of their respective occupancies. With the burgeoning developing and multiplication of such self-sustaining service-giving and thereby profit-making communities the customary political organizations, municipal, county and on up, in the long view are in the way of coming to be superseded by the growing proprietary community-service organizations, thus not only relieving private industry and exchange of its ever-increasing incubus of seizures, preventions and controls but the transformed public administration, itself doing business with the private /sector?/ as its customers, becoming the creator of vast productive goods, profits and values of its own.
