Dear Dr. Rappard:

I was very happy to receive your letter of last November anent solution of the Suez Canal problem. I trust I have not over-presumed in using your name in connection with some of the other favorable comments that have been received, as per copy enclosed.

It is of course true that governments differ in the extent of their arbitrary powers, but there is a feeling among many that the future of civilization depends upon the discovery and development of an alternative mode of public administration actually in fulfillment of the principles of free enterprise rather than essentially opposed. In view of your very great influence in the development of libertarian thought, I take special pleasure in presenting to you an inscribed copy of my recently published CITADEL, MARKET AND ALTAR as a contribution towards discovery of that alternative mode. I trust you will enjoy reading it and that you will be stimulated — perhaps also hopefully inspired — by some of its unusual points of view.

With my highest compliments and all good wishes, I remain

                            Sincerely yours,
