Letter to Heath, Roadsend Gardens, Elkridge, Maryland, from Raymond V. McNally, 200 E. 16th Street, New York City
May 18, 1942
Dear Mr. Heath:
You might be interested to know that the Faculty Forum Committee of the Henry George School at E. 29th St. invited me to give a talk to the faculty next month. It is the custom for the teachers to meet every two weeks at which one of their number discusses new methods and new ideas. It was suggested by the Committee that I present “An Exposition of the Theories of Spencer Heath.”
I told them that not only did I have no authority to render a formal presentation of your ideas, but that I could not do them full justice in a half hour. I explained that your ideas constitute an entire philosophy or system of thought, and that it has never been your practice to discuss them in piecemeal fashion but rather to submit them as a complete whole. I suggested that they invite you to talk to the faculty yourself. They said that they wanted me to talk, and I suppose that was because these forums are restricted to the faculty. I have agreed to do this, and I have written them that although I would not present a formal exposition of your philosophy, at least part of my talk would touch on your ideas or rather some of them.
It may be that the School is making some attempt to get out of the rut of thinking in which it has been resting for some time. Perhaps it is true that to him who waits all things come.
Sincerely,
Raymond V. McNally
